Cleanings & Prevention

Intraoral Camera Exams

Intra Oral Cameras take pictures of the teeth and the tissues inside the mouth. The pictures are magnified on our 22″ monitors and the patient can then see any problems that the dentist sees. These images are stored in the patient’s electronic chart.

Computerized Patient Chart

Each treatment room is equipped with a computer. This allows the patient’s chart to be accessed anywhere in the office. WE can have instant access to treatment plans, appointments, notes, x-rays and photographs. Appointments can be scheduled from any treatment room so you do not have to wait at the front desk to schedule an appointment.

Sealants

Dental sealants are a bonded plastic material that are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They act as a barrier to prevent cavities. Toothbrush bristles cannot reach all the way into the depressions and grooves to extract food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by “sealing out” plaque and food. Sealants are usually for children and teenagers, but adults can benefit as well!

Digital Dental X-Rays

Digital x-rays reduce the amount of radiation to the patient by up to 90%, compared to the traditional X-rays. Within seconds, the x-ray image appears on the computer screen. The image can then be enlarged and enhanced in many ways to improve diagnostic ability. With our 22″ monitors in each operatory we can show the patient exactly what we are seeing. All images are saved and stored in the patient’s electronic chart.

Composite Fillings

In order to treat a cavity, we will remove the decayed portion and fill the area where the tooth has decayed. Fillings can also be used to repair a broken or cracked tooth.

Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. This cap restores the shape size, and strength. The crown fully encases the visible portion on the tooth that lies above the gum line.

Topical Fluoride

Topical Fluoride Application — added protection for your teeth.

Oral Hygiene Instruction

Oral Hygiene Instruction can be provided by any of our qualified staff.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

Porcelain Fixed Bridges

Dental bridges close the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Implant Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. This cap restores the shape size, and strength. The crown fully encases the visible portion on the tooth that lies above the gum line.

Teeth Whitening or Bleaching

Tooth whitening is a common cosmetic dentistry procedure that provides effective results to brighten stained or dull teeth. In our office we make you customized trays to apply professional strength whitening gel. We use a 30% gel ( as opposed to the common “white strips” that are only 10% or 12% ). In as little as 30 minutes a day for one week, you will see results. We have found that over-the-counter, “too good to be true” solutions typically don’t work.

Periodontal Disease

Periodontal diseases range from simple gum inflammation to serious disease. This can result in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost.

What Is Periodontal (Gum) Disease?

Diagnosis

Your dentist or hygienist will use pocket depths, amount of bleeding, inflammation, tooth mobility, etc., to make a diagnosis.

Treatment

Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Your dentist and dental hygienist will evaluate for periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Maintenance

Once your periodontal treatment has been completed, your dentist and dental hygienist will recommend that you have regular maintenance cleanings. Good oral hygiene practices and periodontal cleanings are essential in maintaining dental health and keeping periodontal disease under control.

Restorations

Composite Fillings

In order to treat a cavity, we will remove the decayed portion and fill the area where the tooth has decayed. Fillings can also be used to repair a broken or cracked tooth.

Crowns (Caps)

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. This cap restores the shape size, and strength. The crown fully encases the visible portion on the tooth that lies above the gum line.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

Are replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. There are two types of dentures; complete, and partial. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Fixed Bridges

Dental bridges close the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap.

Root Canal Therapy

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. This cap restores the shape size, and strength. The crown fully encases the visible portion on the tooth that lies above the gum line.

Tooth-Colored Restorations

Silver/mercury fillings are NOT used in our office. Ever. We only use the white (tooth colored) composite resins that are bonded directly to the tooth.

Composite Restorations

Require less removal of healthy tooth structure, strengthen the tooth by bonding the parts of the tooth together, look and feel more natural, are preffered by most patients, non-metallic, hot and cold sensitivity is greatly reduced and are healthier, because no traces of mercury are used.

Advanced Technology

Statim and Midmark Autoclave Sterilizers

Our office uses these fast and effective sterilizers for all instruments and hand pieces. All instruments are placed in sterilization pouches and then run through the Midmark or the Statim sterilizers. The sterilized pouches are then opened for each patient.

4.5 X Magnification

Today’s detailed and precise dental care requires the use of magnification. Dr. Johnson’s eyeglasses have built-in binoculars that magnify the images he sees by 4.5 times. Using magnification of this power allows previously unobtainable precision.

Xeon Lighting

A high intensity spotlight is attached to the Doctor’s magnifying glasses and illuminates the exact area where he is working without glare in the patient’s eyes. Dr. Johnson likes the idea of magnification and lighting that he even bought these glasses for his hygienists!

Plasma Arc Curing Lights

Our composite (white) filling materials are cured (or hardened) with a very bright light. The brightest lights available are plasma arc lights. These lights assure complete and thorough curing of composite materials in 1/3 time of conventional lights.

Computer Monitors

Each treatment room has two computer monitors, one on the cabinet behind the patient, and one on the wall in front of the patient. The one in front of the patient has a diagonal length of 22″ ! We can show each patient a super-magnified view of their digital x-rays and/or the intra oral camera photos. The patient will always be able to “see what the doctor is talking about. VERY educational and informative!

Computerized Patient Chart

There is a computer in each treatment room and throughout the office. This allows your patient chart: digital x-rays,appointments, treatment plan, notes and photographs to be accessed anywhere in the office. Appointments can be scheduled from any treatment room so you do not have to wait at the front desk to schedule your next appointment.
